Thomas W. Schmitt

Thomas W. Schmitt graduated from Northwestern University, Evanston, Illinois in 1968. While he was pursuing an MBA at the University of Illinois, he was called to serve in the armed forces during the Vietnam War. When he completed his military obligations, he then attended Chicago-Kent College of law in Chicago, Illinois, passed the bar examination, and was admitted to practice law in 1975.
Tom started his law practice in 1975 in Marengo, Illinois and has been practicing in Marengo ever since. For the first 10 years, he practiced with Herbert Franks, and then went solo in 1985. In 1995, he had the privilege of being asked to associate with Jay K. Filler, Jr. and they have worked together since that time.
Over the last 32 years, Tom has conducted a general practice involving the areas of real estate, probate, criminal, family law, municipal, zoning, estate planning, tax assessments, income and estate taxes, and commercial transactions. Tom's experience has been varied and he has tried to get things done promptly, keep his fees reasonable, and in general to keep his clients happy. He believes that he has succeeded.
